Learn how to recognize when you’re struggling or stuck in your recovery process, and implement the right self-care practices to help you stay on track (or get back on track) to confidently live a happier, and more balanced life.

You’re strong, beautiful, and soulful. You've made great strides in your recovery from an eating disorder.

You’re feeding and nourishing your body regularly, receiving professional support, and are deeply committed to healing your old patterns and achieving better health.

Yet despite having those core and critical components in place…
…you still feel stuck.

You’re having a tough time choosing self-love over criticism…
…and the fear of falling back into old patterns is still present in your mind.

You struggle to set boundaries to protect yourself and your recovery process…
…and your caretaking of other people rises above caring for yourself.

At times, you feel resentful, burned out, irritable, and exhausted at the effort and energy that lasting recovery takes…
…and you find yourself feeling ashamed you haven’t made more progress or are still holding on to old patterns you KNOW aren’t helping you heal.

Recovery feels harder than it should…
…and you can’t seem to create the balance you need to stay present and focused on your needs and your recovery.
Some days you’re up and some days you’re down, and you’re tired of life feeling so hard.

You suspect you may be missing a key piece in your recovery…
…one that could keep the process moving more smoothly and help you create new habits that feel truly empowering and healthy.

Yet without knowing what that missing piece is, you keep following the same path and process, feeling grateful that you’re in a much better place than you were, but still wishing you felt more balanced, confident, and in control.

Take a deep breath. You’ve come to the right place.
Recovering from an eating disorder is not an easy task — and it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

You should take enormous pride in the progress you’ve made so far and all the work you’ve done to reclaim and sustain your health.

You’ve secured professional support around your recovery, you’re being mindful of your choices in life, and you’re doing your best to juggle the demands of normal day-to-day life responsibilities.

Yet despite all of that progress, it’s very common to get to a place in your recovery where your progress feels stalled, or even that you’re moving backwards.
Instead of focusing on the things that are working, it can a be easy to get frustrated and turn your attention toward the things that aren’t …

Parenting feels harder…

Relationships feel strained…

The pace of life feels overwhelming too often…

Or you just generally find yourself feeling critical, resentful, stuck, or ashamed.
All of this is normal — and can become the priority when we’re tending to kids, partners, work tasks, household chores, and a million other things.

BUT…instead of ignoring the sense of overwhelm, try to recognize this as a sign.

A sign saying, “Hey, something’s not right here.
You’ve got needs that aren’t being met.”

The key to lasting recovery is to be able to do three things:

Recognize
the sign or signs that something is amiss

Check-in
with yourself to identify what’s going on that’s making you feel that way

Practice
self-care activities that brings you back into balance

Sounds easy enough, right?
It is... if you know how to check in with yourself and have a system of self-care practices to pull from.

Sounds easy enough, right?

It is... if you know how to check in with yourself and have a system of self-care practices to pull from.
The fact is, though, that so many people who are recovering from eating disorders have never been taught how to check-in with themselves to identify how they’re feeling…

…or what self-care practices are truly effective (or what they even are!).

It’s a critical piece of support that’s typically not covered in treatment  because the focus initially needs to be on repairing your basic relationship with food.

But the only way to a truly lasting recovery from your eating disorder (as well as a happier and healthier you overall) is to know when you’re off track, and how to do the right next thing.

Self-care doesn’t just include the food you eat.

It also includes:
quality
sleep
moving
your body
building a positive mindset

setting boundaries
taking time just for yourself

When you understand how to care for yourself — and you actively practice self-care skills — you’re not just HOPING you’ll keep your recovery on track…

…you are MAKING SURE that you do.

And THAT is why knowing how to check-in with yourself and having practices that help to meet your needs consistently is make-or-break for a successful and long-lasting recovery.

The key is learning how to check-in with yourself and implement small, meaningful, and simple self-care practices one at a time.

When you do this, your routine will slowly build into a highly effective and SUSTAINABLE system that will provide an extra layer of support in your recovery process AND add immense value into your life overall.

When you recognize what’s getting in your way, and use this practice to get you back on track, your confidence will soar knowing that you can take care of yourself and succeed in your recovery process.
The good news is…

…developing the skill set to check in with yourself and having self-care practices at the ready when you need them is something you can easily learn!

It may seem hard to imagine that so much can shift in your life just from listening to yourself and having a solid self-care routine, but it absolutely can.

I’d love to help you do the same!
Hi, I’m Patty Fahlstrom
I’m a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Registered Dietitian with over 25 years experience.

I’m also the owner of a private practice on the west coast called Bloom Health & Wellness Promotion, where we help patients struggling with and recovering from eating disorders and hormonal issues.

I’ve been studying physiology and nutrition for decades, beginning in college where I majored in fitness management and exercise physiology. I then went on to get a Masters of Science degree in Nutrition.

I spent the first 10-12 years of my career in medical settings which I found to be an invaluable experience, giving me a variety of skills that have allowed me to help my clients. I have also worked with eating disorder treatment centers that provided residential and day treatment levels of  care, where I spent over a decade helping clients in the early stages of recovery.
Throughout my career, I’ve developed a deep appreciation and understanding of women who are struggling with eating disorders and have gained significant insight into the challenges of the recovery process.

Recovering from an eating disorder is hard work, and also vastly different from other recovery processes. There are often gaps in the support system at typical treatment centers due to the limited timeframe of care and the focus on restoration and stabilization of health rather than long term recovery.

Self-care is absolutely one of those gaps. That's why my mission is to provide the tools, resources, and support that will help you learn how to check in with yourself and have a self-care routine in place that will keep you on track in your recovery when life feels overwhelming.
Ready to learn how?
I want to help you feel in control of your recovery – and I know that quality self-care is the way to do it. It's also the best opportunity you have (that ANYONE has!) of building a more balanced productive, and happy life.

If you’ve been struggling in your recovery or feel stuck or overwhelmed, I can’t wait to show you how tuning into your needs and incorporating a self-care system into your life can help you feel balanced, empowered, and resilient.

When added to your treatment plan and your team of professional support, increased self-awareness and intentional self-care can be exactly what’s needed to fill that missing piece in the puzzle for truly lasting recovery success.
